KTM Recalls 2009 690 Duke and 690 SMC for Fork Cracks

KTM is recalling certain 2009 690 Duke and 690 SMC motorcycles.

During use, the front forks could develop cracks; this could result in the possibility of the front fork inner tube separating from the axle clamp. The cause of the defect involves improper heat treatment of the front fork inner tubes by the manufacturer.

237 units are affected.

Check out my Motorcycle Recalls feature for more details.

Jonway Recalls 2008 Sunny Scooters for Brake Line Retainer Defect

Jonway is recalling certain 2008 Sunny motorcycles.

The scooters were intended to be built with rubber hydraulic brake line that is routed through a retainer to prevent front tire contact. However, in some cases, the retainer may not have been installed during scooter assembly. If the retainer is missing, the front tire may rub through the brake line.

180 units are affected.

Check out my Motorcycle Recalls feature for more details.

Jonway Recalls 2008 YY150T-12 and YY50QT-21A Scooters for Fuel Filter Leakage

Jonway is recalling certain 2008 YY150T-12 and YY50QT-21A scooters.

The scooters were built with 2 piece, inline, fuel filters that may begin leaking where the two pieces join.

5000 units are affected.

Check out my Motorcycle Recalls feature for more details.

Continuous Enforcement of Insurance (CEI)

Yes yet another piece of proposed legislation aimed at motorists including us bikers.
The BMF has forcibly pointed out that this proposal spells trouble.

CIE will operate by identifying those vehicles that appear to be kept uninsured from a comparison of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authoritys ("DVLA") vehicles' register and the Motor Insurance Database held by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB).

Chris Hodder, the BMFs Government Relations Executive said: "Given the inaccuracy of the information already on the database, we suspect that a great deal of time and effort will be wasted enforcing the unnecessary. While supporting the need for those caught driving or riding without insurance to be prosecuted, the BMF would like to see this being done through road policing and not through an error-prone blind system such as the proposed CIE."

So for those of us who have multi-bike policies, classic bike collectors it could mean trouble or if you lent a taxed but uninsured machine to a fully insured friend, it could still result in you the owner committing an offence!

What else will they think of!!!!
The consultation document can be found at: http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/open/motor/

Ride safe.

MIINERVA PARENTAG OF CAGIVA F4

The Tiger Boxer 200 is probably one of the biggest mysteries in the Thai motorcycle market. Not much information is available about the Tiger Boxer 200, which on its own is not a bad bike at all. The Tiger Boxer 200 was developed with the help of Italian sporty motorcycle manufacture Cagiva Motors, and for a short moment also marketed in Southeast Asia as the Cagiva F4.

The Tiger Boxer 200 (and the Boxer 250RS) are both based on the Cagiva F4 (not the current Cagiva F4 which is a superbike), I digged in the foto albums and pulled out a oldie

The Tiger Boxer is designed by Cagiva at the time that MV Agusta (mother company of Cagiva) was owned by Proton Malaysia. Proton wanted to get a few models quickly on the Southeast Asian markets, import duty from Europe was extreme high, so Proton looked for partners to build and sell the newly designed motorcycles. And the Boxer 200 is a result of this partnership.

In Thailand, Proton found a suitable partner in Tiger Motorcycles, the deal did not go as well as it was planned. Proton got into a bit financial difficulty and decided to let the MV Augusta go, I belief it was sold for 1 US$ back to a group of Italian investors. (currently MV Augusta is merged with Harley Davidson).

Honda X-4 modification Conceps

The Honda X4 is a 1298 cc motorcycle produced by Honda from model years 1997–2003, after which production was discontinued.

Its powerful transverse-mounted, inline 4-cylinder, water-cooled engine was later used in the Honda CB1300, but the X4 version was geared to provide more low-end torque. The bike's visual appearance is distinctive, marked by its low-slung profile, solid disc rear wheel, bulbous yet angular side panels, and stubby, large-diameter chrome exhausts.

Created as an answer to the Yamaha V-Max, the X4 was sold primarily in Japan, but a number of bikes found their way to Europe, notably Germany, where the X4 enjoys a cult following.

X4 LD

In the 2000 model year, a new version, the X4 LD ("Low Down") was introduced. It offered a slightly lowered seat and overall frame, improved suspension (with "piggyback"-style Showa rear shock absorbers), and minor cosmetic differences including an unpainted engine block (versus the black of the original) and lightweight latticework inner rotors on the front brakes (the originals were solid discs). In 2003, the final model year, the LD was offered in a special "black edition", in which many of the body parts were colored black or dark charcoal grey. Very few of this edition were produced. Many Honda X4 bikes were sold in Russia at second-hand market

YAMAHA V-MAX MODIFICATION

History of yamaha v max

John Reed, an English designer who lived in California was contracted by Yamaha to design

Sold both in Japan and abroad, the yamaha v-max has been on the market with only minor modifications since the 1985 model year, making it one of the best-selling Japanese motorcycles of all time. The Honda X-4 was created in response to its overwhelming success, but was in production for only six years, proving unable to shake the yamaha V-Max's popularity and exceptional reliability.

Until 2007, the original yamaha V-Max was offered for sale through the Star Motorcycles division of Yamaha Motorcycles. Apart from a minor freshening to the bike's specifications in 1993, when the bike gained a larger-diameter fork to minimize high-speed wobbling and drift, four-piston brake calipers, and other handling and safety related upgrades, the 2007 V-Max was almost the same as the original 1985 versio
